Life

Recently I've moved to a large city with my partner. I've been using my now abundant free time to dive into some areas of programming that I've always wanted to explore. I've also been diving into areas of the city that I want to explore! It turns out that old cities have lots of fun little hidden areas to check out.

Interest

I'm fascinated by information and complex systems, and that has led me to programming and statistics as ways of reveling in these complex systems.

This website is an outcome of a recent desire for my own little curated public space. I like having a little slice of the internet that I can change and play around with.

Lately I've been swallowed whole with an interest in urban planning and how our regulatory environment shapes our lives. What are the sociatal characteristics that help us live happy lives? I've been reading the StrongTowns books and articles, and now I'm talking with my neighbors about zoning codes.

Work

I'm currently working for an advocacy group maintaining a data pipeline of varied webscrapers, servers, and databases. A lot of the work these days is re-writing old code, but a long term overhaul of the data pipeline is in progress. I've heard that everyone wants to throw out the old codebase and start from scratch, but there's a lot to re-learn along the way. A lot of decisions were made, and we have to untangle them to understand if the underlying assumptions were good, or if we think we know better now then they did then.
